Number porting

If you are currently on another network and have decided to move to Orange, then you can bring your existing number with you onto the Orange network without any fuss. This applies to all customers regardless of whether they are on a contract or 'pay-as-you-go' phone. In fact anybody can do it apart from existing Orange customers i.e you cannot bring an existing Orange number with you.

The Number port procedure

The procedure is quick and simple - before your contract expires on the network that you are currently using, simply call the relevant customer services and request a P.A.C code or Porting Authorisation Code to give it it's full name. e.g. ORG123789. Obtaining this code should be absolutely free although their are some service providers who may try to charge - so check first !

Once you have received your P.A.C code (e.g. ORG123789) simply fill in the appropriate details on the online order form with the number you are transferring and the network that you are currently on - it's as simple as that !

The number will then be transferred within 7 calendar days to your new handset. In the meantime whilst you are awaiting the number port to take place, your new phone will come with a temporary number so that you can use it straight away. Very often customers will place their old phone on 'call divert' to their new number so that friends and colleagues can call them without being any the wiser that you have a temporary number.

One important thing to remember is that you MUST request a P.A.C code before a contract expires i.e. Do not cancel a contract first and then decide a few days later that you would have liked to have kept your old number as it simply will not exist anymore - so be warned !

Questions and answers

Q. Why can't I bring my Orange Just Talk number ?
A. Because you are already a customer, so it simply cannot be done

Q. My current service provider will not issue me with a P.A.C
A. You are either still within your 12 month contract or you have been disconnected

Q. How long will the P.A.C last ?
A. A P.A.C is only valid for 30 calendar days so you do have to be prompt

Q. Can somebody else get my P.A.C for me ?
A. No, the customer has to obtain their own code due to the Data Protection Act

Q. Can I use my current 'pay-as-you-go' number ?
A. Yes, as long as it is still connected. Any remaining credit that you had will be lost.

Q. Can I withdraw my application to transfer ?
A. Only if it is done before the 2 networks concerned agree a date on which to transfer

Q. Can I transfer my number again ?
A. Yes, you can transfer your number indefinitely as long as you have fulfilled your 12 month contract

Q. Will it cost me anything ?
A. It shouldn't do although there are some service providers who are trying to do so
